FAQs

What is AccuRate™?

AccuRate™ is a type of usage-based insurance (UBI) policy that allows the insurance company to collect data on a driver’s behaviour behind the wheel, such as the distance travelled, time of day, speed, and acceleration. This information is gathered using telematics technology, typically installed in the insured vehicle.

Based on the collected data, Allen Insurance Group can determine the risk associated with each driver and adjust their premiums accordingly. Drivers who demonstrate safer driving habits are rewarded with lower premiums, while those with higher risks are charged more.

AccuRate™ is a popular option as more and more drivers are looking for ways to reduce their insurance costs. It can be particularly beneficial for low-mileage drivers, as they may be able to save money on their premiums by proving that they are not on the road as much. With the help of AccuRate™, we can use your data to provide you with a more personalized policy.

What type of plans does AccuRate™ offer?

AccuRate™ offers two types of plans:

Pay-per-mile

This plan charges our clients based on the number of miles they drive. The insurance company sends you a device to install in your vehicle that tracks the miles driven, and you are charged a rate per mile. This is a cost-effective option for people who do not drive very much.

Behaviour-based

This plan is based on your behaviour behind the wheel. The insurance company uses telematics technology to collect data on your driving habits, such as speed, braking and acceleration. Based on this data, we can calculate a personalized premium for you. Safer drivers may be eligible for lower premiums, while risky drivers may face higher premiums.

How does AccuRate™ work for auto insurance?

Here’s how our AccuRate™ plan works:

  1. Enroll in the program: Drivers interested in AccuRate™ will need to enroll and provide their consent to having their driving behaviour monitored.
  2. Install telematics device: Once enrolled, the driver will receive a small telematics device that plugs into their vehicle’s diagnostic port. This device collects data on their driving behaviour, such as speed, acceleration, braking, and time of day, and tracks their mileage.
  3. Drive normally: The driver then simply drives their vehicle as they normally would. The telematics device will collect data on their driving behaviour and send it back to the insurance company.
  4. Receive personalized rate: We will calculate a personalized rate for the driver based on the data collected. For behaviour-based, drivers who demonstrate safe driving habits may be eligible for lower rates, while those who pose a higher risk may face higher rates. For pay-per-mile, drivers with low mileage use will see lower premiums.
  5. Adjust driving behaviour: The AccuRate™ program can also provide feedback to the driver on their driving habits, allowing them to make adjustments and potentially improve their rates over time.

  • You must agree to install the telematics device in your vehicle and keep it plugged in for the duration of the program.

Can a G2 driver use AccuRate™?

Yes! G2 drivers may be eligible for AccuRate™ as long as they meet the program’s requirements. In fact, having an AccuRate plan can be quite beneficial for G2 drivers, particularly those who are responsible and safe drivers. Having AccuRate can:
